![]() ![]() So on October 6, the team signed Douglas to be part of a crew of reinforcements. And eventually, it did-in the form of a phone call from the Packers.īy early October, Green Bay’s secondary had been decimated-most notably by the loss of All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander to a shoulder injury. ![]() Even though, as a practice squad member, he knew he wasn’t going to get in the game, he’d prepare as if he was-studying film, jotting down notes, creating full scouting reports of opponents. “I was pissed off, ever since then.” Douglas became more determined than ever to prove that he belonged. “That moment forever changed me,” he says. “I felt like I wasn’t on the team,” Douglas says of his time with the Cardinals.ĭouglas didn’t fault the security guard that afternoon. He was working his hardest to stick-waiting and hoping that someone would see him. This was Douglas’s fifth team in a year, and security didn’t even know his name. It was a humiliating experience-and a painful one. Ultimately, they had to track down a coach to confirm that Douglas was indeed on the roster. The guard called another security guard, who similarly couldn’t place the name. “Oh, well, we have to ask,” the guard said. “Nah, I play here,” Douglas said, flashing his team-issued iPad. The guard didn’t recognize him and wouldn’t let him into the building. But early on in his stint there, a security guard at the practice facility stopped him. His next stop was the Cardinals, and he tried to stay optimistic about his chances to make it to the big team. Then the Texans-a mere six days after they signed him in late August 2021. He spent the next season with the Panthers, finishing with a career-high 62 tackles (50 solo) and nine pass breakups, but was released after the season. The cornerback had previously spent three seasons with the Eagles, helping them win Super Bowl LII in 2018, but the team waived him during final roster cuts in September 2020. He had just signed on to become a member of the Arizona Cardinals practice squad, and his NFL career to that point had been anything but stable. Expect the Packers to go with the higher ceiling player.Everything Rasul Douglas wanted seemed out of reach. Yiadom had an opportunity to make a statement in the final preseason game, but neither he nor Kabion Ento capitalized. The Packers traded for Yiadom from the New York Giants, but it’s been more of the same from the former third-round pick who is already on his third NFL team. Do the Packers really need a fifth? It will be hard to sell McDuffie to the front office considering the best thing he has going for him is that he was a draft pick. ![]() De’Vondre Campbell and Krys Barnes will take the majority of the snaps while Oren Burks and Ty Summers will be the primary backups. It will be a great story for undrafted free agent Jack Heflin if he beats out Lancaster.ĭespite surprisingly releasing Kamal Martin, Green Bay still has fairly solid depth at inside linebacker even if they lack top-end talent. Unfortunately, he’s been trending down and there’s a new guy in town who does his job just as good if not better. Tyler Lancaster has been around the team for years now. This will be one of the most difficult decisions the Packers will make on cut-down day. They’ve seen enough and it’s time for both parties to move forward with their lives. Despite not counting against the roster if the Packers keep him around, don’t be surprised if they decide to move on from him outright. It’s been a bumpy professional career for Sternberger who has to serve a two-game suspension to begin the season. Still, Green Bay has needs at other positions so they’ll likely try to stash him on their practice squad. However, Benkert played well when given the opportunity and could develop into a decent backup down the road. The Packers are solid with Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love atop the depth chart. This is, perhaps, the least surprising of the group. These six members of the Green Bay Packers could surprisingly be cut from the team’s 53-man roster that is due on Tuesday. There’s no saying which way they will go, so here are six players who could be surprise cuts on Tuesday. Green Bay has a number of difficult and bold decisions to make about a number of different position battles that took place throughout camp. As of Monday night, the Green Bay Packers had yet to tip their hand about what they would do on Tuesday–the NFL’s deadline to go from 80 to the 53-man roster every team must operate under throughout the season. ![]()
